WARSAW – On Saturday, Aug. 15, Warsaw Tiger Football held the first practices of the newly formed NFL Flag Football at Warsaw Community High School. Over 100 participants were in attendance for the Tiger football coach and player-led league. Registration for the league will continue through this weekend.

HUNTERTOWN – One season began Monday afternoon, another had to wait. Inclement weather postponed the start of the varsity girls soccer seasons for both Warsaw and Fort Wayne Carroll, but the JV teams were able to complete their game ahead of the weather. The Warsaw JV lost 5-0 while the varsity match was moved to Sept. 29.

PLYMOUTH – Saturday, Aug. 29, is right around the corner and marks the day that Circle Track’s ground breaking Great American Racing Series will take to the dirt for the first time in their six-race inaugural season with the Down-n-Dirty 125 at Plymouth Speedway.

WALKERTON – Triton’s volleyball season opener did not go nearly as planned, losing in three games to host John Glenn Monday evening. Glenn took hold of a game one win, 25-15, and just got stronger, winning 25-14 and 25-10 to close out the sweep in an old Northern State Conference matchup.

SOUTH BEND – The University of Notre Dame has announced the locations for pep rallies for the 2015 home football season. ARLINGTON, TX – It was a day to remember for a former northern Indiana baseball star. Ryan Strausborger, who graduated from Elkhart Memorial High School in 2006, had three hits, including his first Major League home run, in the Texas Rangers’ 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday afternoon.

FORT WAYNE – Despite trailing by five runs entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the TinCaps came back to beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 7-6, in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne extended its winning streak to a season-best eight games and won its 13th in a row at home in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,528 (the 20th sell-out of the year).

APPLETON, Wisc. – Ian Happ continued his hot stretch with three more RBI to power South Bend past Wisconsin, 4-1, in Sunday afternoon’s rubber game at Fox Cities Stadium.

FORT WAYNE – The TinCaps used timely hitting, sharp defense, and superb pitching to down the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 3-1, on Saturday night. It was the club’s seventh win in a row – that ties a season high – and 12th consecutive home victory. Fort Wayne has won 15 of its last 17 games

APPLETON, Wisc. – South Bend overcame an early deficit in the fourth, but Wisconsin jumped right back ahead to top the Cubs, 4-3, in Saturday night’s middle game at Fox Cities Stadium. Cubs starter Jake Stinnett fanned a career-high eight in the losing effort.

BREMEN – Indiana State Troopers from the Bremen and Ft. Wayne Posts have joined forces in an effort to raise money for one of their own, Abby Caswell. A benefit golf outing and silent auction will take place at the Warren Golf Course at the University of Notre Dame Monday, Aug. 24.

LEESBURG – Todd Palmer of Fishers posted 66, 67 to claim his second IGA Mid-Amateur Title. Palmer’s 7-under-par tournament finish included ten birdies and he defeated the field by two shots.

KENDALLVILLE – Warsaw’s quest to gradually improve with each start was met Saturday at the Lady Tigers placed sixth at the East Noble Invite. Warsaw shot a 409, 28 strokes better than at the Plymouth Invite the team took part in last Tuesday.

SYRACUSE – Wawasee received consistent play from its entire starting five in a dominant home girls golf win Thursday. The Lady Warriors had all five of its golfers in the 40s to post a 169, besting Concord’s 211 and Whitko’s 257 at Maxwelton Golf Club.

BURLINGTON, Iowa – The TinCaps’ seven-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night with a 5-0 loss to the Burlington Bees at Community Field. Burlington returned the favor after Fort Wayne won in shutout fashion, 4-0, on Tuesday.

SOUTH BEND – South Bend scored 10 unanswered runs, and Trevor Clifton hurled seven strong innings, as the Cubs defeated Kane County, 10-2, on Wednesday night at Four Winds Field before a crowd of 5,029, a mark that pushed South Bend to a new single-season franchise attendance record of 259,530.

SOUTH BEND – At 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time August 5th, the South Bend Cubs were 300 tickets away from setting a new record for regular season attendance. By 7:05 p.m., when the first pitch had been thrown, the new historic record of 259,530 fans for a single season of professional baseball in South Bend had been established.
