WARSAW – Owen Glogovsky says he feels good as he heads into his final high school cross country season.

That is not good news for those who will have to compete versus the Warsaw senior star though.

Glogovsky, who has battled through breathing issues related to allergies, feels strong as he readies to make a final run this fall.

“It’s been a long journey (the issues with allergies), but I feel good now and I’m definitely looking forward to being healthy this season,” said Glogovsky. “In the past, I’ve tried to fight through it, but now I have a better idea and plan on how to handle it.”

Glogovsky, who is also one of the top students in his Class of 2016, has been a key man in coach Jim Mills’ program since his freshman year. Back then, he was in the shadows of stars like Jake Poyner and Robert Murphy, who led Warsaw to a fourth-place finish at State in 2012.

Now, Glogovsky is the main man as one of the top runners in Indiana.

“Owen is in the best shape I’ve seen him in,” said Mills. “We have a lot of expectations for him. A big key for him to stay healthy is to get his rest and we’ve talked about that. I know that he wants to go out with a bang in his final season. He’s a good leader for us.”

Glogovsky was a part of state finalist teams in 2012 and 2013. He was second at the Culver Academies Sectional and third at the CMA Regional last year as Warsaw won the team titles at both events. He then had a disappointing day at the semistate, finishing 36th overall as the Tigers placed eighth as a team and missed out on a fourth straight trip to State.

“It’s always on my mind,” said Glogovsky honestly about last year’s semistate race. “I don’t want to forget it. It’s not a negative. I use it as a driving force and to push me.”

Mills knows he has a great No. 1 runner in Glogovsky, but is not sure what to expect after that.

“We see definite potential and have some young guys with ability,” noted Mills. “We are thin so a big key is that everyone stays healthy for us.”

Also back for the Tigers from the semistate team are sophomore Lucas Howett and senior Jon Beres. Also being counted on are Taylor Mills and Francisco Ramirez.

Warsaw opens its season by hosting the Tiger Invitational Aug. 25.

Wawasee Warriors

Key Returnees: Jaxon Bame, Sam Griner, Marcos Mejia

Key Losses: Zach Cockrill

Key Newcomers: Logan Brugh, Luke Griner, Bennett Hoffert

Coach Hoffert’s Comments: “We have two returning lettermen, so we have a lot of gaps to fill. There are five freshmen coming in and they’ll be expected to slide into some slots for us. They all ran very well as middle schoolers, three of them finished in the top-25 down at the state meet in Carmel. So, I think some of them will be able to make an impact for us. This year it’s going to be hard for us to have much depth, that will be our biggest challenge.”

Whitko Wildcats

Key Returnees: Josh Wright, Logan Busz, Ezra Miller, Collin Bross

Key Losses: N/A

Key Newcomers: Zach Freel

Coach Bradley’s Comments: “The thing I’ve learned about this group so far is that while we may or may not have a top runner who wins races, we have a solid five top to bottom who should all perform fairly strong and help us score team points pretty well. Josh and Logan have been the strongest so far through this week’s practices, and they have been within a few seconds of each other during runs. Ezra and Collin have been close behind, and they have challenged each other this week as well. Zach will start practices on Monday, but he won races throughout his middle school career, and he should provide a nice boost to the returnees. We are obviously young, but there is still some experience within the roster, and they are competing and improving on a daily basis.”

Triton Trojans

Key Returnees: Bailey Watkins, Cordell Sherow, Shaun Honeycutt

Key Losses: Derek Johnston, Landon Kaufman, Skyler Reichert

Key Newcomers: Brock Watkins, Brenden Ray, Jeremiah Goodrich

Coach Schori’s Comments: “Whenever looking at the upcoming season, we always look to set lofty goals. With the large invitationals that we are participating in this year, placing in the top 5 or top 10 as a team would be good. Also another thing we always look at is our conference meet. Obviously this year will be different because we are a part of the newly formed HNAC. So we won’t be running against the powerhouse New Prairie of the old NSC. I would expect us to compete well in the conference. Lastly, we always set the goal of advancing from sectionals as a team. However, if we can’t advance as a team, we would like to get individuals to advance. I’m very excited this year to see what we can do this year with the amount of experience we have returning and because of the success they had last season.”

Tippecanoe Valley Vikings

Key Returnees: Jesse Floor, Jared Mikel, Tom Solano, Devin Childers, Gary Long, Tyler Ross, Shay Merley

Key Losses: Brandon Maull, Noah Clampitt

Key Newcomers: Chevy Teeter

Coach Inglehearn’s Comments: “I expect us to have a strong season this year. Jesse is back as our top runner for the third year.”
