Neither a 91-minute rain delay nor an early 2-0 deficit could slow South Bend, as the Cubs powered past West Michigan, 5-3, in the series opener Saturday night at Four Winds Field.

The TinCaps lost to the Dayton Dragons, 8-2, on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field in a game that was called in the top of the eighth inning due to rain. It was the first game of a nine-game road trip for Fort Wayne.

The final day of the Baseball Players Association World Series for the 10U and 13U age groups at the CCAC saw teams trying to get games over with before the bad weather zeroed in on Kosciusko County. All told, the New Haven Bulldogs Black 10U team and the Granger Cubs 13U team each stood tallest as champions of each respective baseball tournament Saturday.

The TinCaps raced past the Lake County Captains, 8-3, on Princess Fairy Tale Knight, closing out a storybook-like homestand. Fort Wayne finished 6-3 during its nine-game stretch at Parkview Field.

It’s all on the line Saturday. The Baseball Players Association World Series will culminate Saturday with championship round games after Friday’s action set up what should be a fantastic finals of the 10U and 13U tournaments.

South Bend built on Thursday’s offensive outburst and ran past Lansing, 10-3, on Friday at Cooley Law School Stadium to claim the three-game series.

Anderson University head baseball coach David Pressley has recently resigned his position to serve through a baseball and teaching role with Madison Academy High School in northern Alabama.

WARSAW – The Warsaw Little League Major All-Star team already has one championship to its credit. The team will shoot for a state title starting Saturday. Super Mario Bros. Night was a smashing success for the TinCaps for eight innings on Thursday night at Parkview Field. But then, as if Fort Wayne drove over a banana peel on Luigi Raceway, the game slipped away from the TinCaps in a 9-3, 10-inning loss to the Lake County Captains.

Baseball teams in the 10U and 13U brackets began their championship marches as day two of the Baseball Players Association World Series rolled on Thursday at the CCAC.

Hollywood actors Lisa Varga and Kevin Farley will be at this Saturday’s South Bend Cubs game to throw out the first pitch.

South Bend’s singles snowballed to start the fourth and eventually accumulated into a seven-run, eight-hit inning, as the Cubs toppled Lansing, 10-6, on Thursday at Cooley Law School Stadium to even up the three-game series at one game apiece.

Before they were stars, they were in the Fort. Forty-three former Fort Wayne TinCaps and Wizards played in the big leagues during the first half of the 2015 Major League Baseball season. Fort Wayne alums have appeared on the rosters of 21 of MLB’s 30 teams so far this year.

Mentone Youth League is sending three teams to the 8U, 10U and 12U boys travel teams have advanced to Town & Country semi-state tournament to begin Thursday.
