SYRACUSE — Another group of Wawasee High School students who have excelled academically during their high school years are now part of the school’s Academic Hall of Fame. A group of 42 senior students, or roughly 18 percent of this year’s graduating class, were honored during the Academic Hall of Fame Banquet Thursday evening, May 4, in the high school cafeteria.

SYRACUSE — Some students who don’t live in an agricultural setting may discover they like working with animals. Knowing this, and considering other factors, work began last week on a building at Wawasee High School that will contain not only a chicken coop, but also a horticulture area.

WARSAW — Terry Shepherd, developer of the Candlewood Estates subdivision in Wayne Township, wants to re-plat the second phase of the subdivision from six lots to three. SYRACUSE — Four Wawasee High School students had to think fast in role playing situations during the state DECA competition in Indianapolis in January. But they were able to do so effectively enough to finish second and third and to qualify for the national DECA competition, more specifically the International Career Development Conference, April 26-29 in Anaheim, Calif.

SYRACUSE — Wawasee High School engineering students, led by teacher Allen Coblentz, are preparing two super mileage cars for the annual Shell Eco-marathon April 26-30 on the streets of downtown Detroit. One of the cars, diesel powered, will have four wheels, is larger and will actually look a little closer to a real life car.

SYRACUSE — A team of five visited Wawasee schools on a “whirlwind tour” and came away with a recommendation for accreditation for the school district. CROMWELL — As Turkey Creek Regional Sewer District wraps up one multi-million dollar project, the board members seemed surprised to find themselves gearing up for yet another one. After several months of attempting to address grievances with bills coming from the town of Syracuse, TCRSD passed a motion to begin a $53,000 study that will help the board determine the process on becoming self-sufficient.

NORTH WEBSTER — News and requests resulting from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management mandated improvements to the North Webster sewer system and treatment plant dominated the Tuesday, March 22, meeting of the North Webster Town Council. SYRACUSE — Every five years, the Wawasee Community School Corp. goes through an accreditation process where a team visits and thoroughly examines the school district. The school corporation is preparing for a visit from AdvancED next week for the accreditation process.

CLAYPOOL — Several months ago I was driving south of Warsaw on SR 15 up and down the gently rolling hills near Claypool. I noticed an old barn sitting fairly close to the road.

CLAYPOOL — Duncan Campbell, board member of the Indiana Barn Foundation, looked at a photo of the old barn along SR 15, north of Claypool, and said the style has its origins in the English threshing barn, sometimes referred to as the English three-bay barn.

SYRACUSE — Wawasee Community School Corp. was one of 32 school districts statewide to be awarded a 2017 digital learning grant by the Indiana Department of Education’s Office of eLearning. This grant supports school corporations in providing professional development, developing content and expectations, creating avenues for parent and student communication, as well as purchasing devices.

SYRACUSE — Wawasee Community School Corporation’s kindergarten roundup is Thursday, March 23. They are ready to welcome the class of 2030.

SYRACUSE — For a couple of hours there was fun, food and dancing and also a time of bonding between fathers and daughters. Lakeland Youth Center held its annual Daddy-Daughter Dance Saturday, March 4, in the Oakwood Events Center in Syracuse.

SYRACUSE — From the start, it was noted the middle school meeting held Monday evening, Feb. 27, in the lecture room of Wawasee Middle School was more about seeking input and suggestions to make Wawasee’s two middle schools even better. Rebecca Linnemeier, school board president, said “we are not here to close a middle school.”

SYRACUSE — Wawasee FFA will be hosting its annual member auction at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the lecture room at Wawasee High School.
