INDIANAPOLIS — Kent Abernathy, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), announced today that license branches will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. All license branches resume normal business hours on Saturday, Dec. 26.

INDIANA — Gas prices are plunging around the country, with the national average falling in 24 out of the past 30 days, according to AAA. The price of a gallon of regular now stands at $2.04 nationally, down 14 cents compared to one month ago and 74 cents lower than this time last year. In early 2015, the national average dropped near the $2 mark but never crossed it. But AAA and others anticipate that we’ll dip below the $2 threshold within a matter of days.

NEW PARIS — A Columbia City man was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 18, after being pursued by Goshen Police. Michael Binstock, 54, Columbia City, reportedly robbed the Dollar General store located on SR 15 in New Paris at 4:26 p.m.

ELKHART COUNTY — A motorcycle versus buggy crash from Sept. 3, has claimed the life of one man, Tracy A. Newcomer, Nappanee. The accident occurred at 3:07 p.m. on CR 1350N, near CR 200W. Responders arrived locating the motorcycle driver, Newcomer, in the roadway.

INDIANAPOLIS — Arlen Brennaman of Syracuse is seeing gold after scratching a record-making winning lottery ticket while on a break from work in Goshen. An employee at Forest River Inc., Brennaman said his initial reaction was complete shock after scratching off a ticket worth $7 million.

WARSAW — The recycling center, located on Union Street, Warsaw, offers recycling services for many items including plastics, televisions, used motor oil and antifreeze plus latex and oil-based paints. MILFORD — Emergency personnel are currently responding to a corn field fire located at 512 E CR 1300N, Milford. Milford Fire Department is fighting the blaze that started on the west end of the cornfield, quickly spreading east with high winds.
