Kosciusko Weighs In On Syrian Refugee Debate

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Last week InkFreeNews invited readers to weigh in on an issue that has been saturating national and international news following the attacks that claimed the lives of more than 125 people in multiple venues throughout Paris. [See Related: Should We Allow Refugees On U.S. Soil?]

Following reports that a Syrian refugee was among the perpetrators of the terrorists attacks that took place in Paris, a volley of responses were launched, ranging from shock, sadness and anger, from both civilians and government officials alike. A total of 266 readers took a moment to cast their opinion on how to handle the Syrian refugee debate. The following are responses from readers and data from our poll.

Numerous individuals took a moment to share their opinions via Facebook as well. Though answers varied, the majority of posters were in favor of declining refugees access to the U.S. However, reasonings and stipulations varied. While some stated a hard no, others described ideas to remedy the situation.

Others expressed an interest to use tax dollars that might be spent helping refugees assisting homeless veterans instead.

A minority supported allowing refugees in the U.S. Views on how best to handle discerning potential safety threats ranged from screening each refugee closely to only allowing certain age groups or genders.

And though they represented an even smaller minority, a few readers voiced a desire to offer refugees safety and open passage to the United States.
