Two Wawasee Academic Teams Place Second

The first Academic Super Bowl invitational of the 2015 season was held Monday at Warsaw Community High School. Wawasee High School had two teams — social studies and interdisciplinary — place second.

Jerrica Bontrager, Jake Cowman, Brandon Fox and Josh Webber make up the social studies team and Zoe Berg, Fox, Clayton Hicks, Evan Krueger and Jannette Schmidt make up the interdisciplinary team. Overall, Wawasee placed third out of 13 teams competing.

Other Academic Super Bowl teams competing for Wawasee included English (Berg, Owen Donahoe and Lacey Helfers), science (Colfax Cannaday, Donahoe, Fox and Hicks), math (Hicks, Krueger and Ben Slabaugh) and fine arts (Cachet McDaniel, Shawna Sautter and Schmidt).

Team coaches are Mary Lou Dixon (social studies), Stephanie Szynal (math), Holly Sautter (fine arts), Sarah Holsopple (science) and Cyndi Thornburg (English).

Wawasee will host the Northern Lakes Conference competition beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. The regional competition will be held in April and the state finals in early May at Purdue University.
