SYRACUSE — You hear them coming? The screams of warriors as they roam through this world. You can feel the passion, taste the pride, see the strength and smell the endurance. Warrior blood is in their veins. Recently, Wawasee High School has experienced grave loss. In the past three years the world has lost five of our mighty warriors.

Parent-teacher conferences have been scheduled for 3:15 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Wawasee High School. The arena format will be used with all teachers being in the cafeteria and commons areas.

Wawasee High School will be celebrating the annual homecoming week a bit earlier this year. Normally in October, instead it will be the week of Sept. 21-25.

SYRACUSE — The Boomerang Backpacks program has stayed plenty productive since Kellie Newcomer took over as the new program coordinator in the early summer months. Wawasee High School students take part in the program each week by helping fill bags with food and get them ready to send home with low-income elementary students.

Foreign exchange students attending Wawasee High School during the 2015-16 academic year include Francesca Soru (Italy), Dikshita Gonzalez-Gomez (Spain) and Charanyapak Supatanavanichakul (Thailand). Also, Cecilie Rose (Denmark), Porpim Jindasakchal (Thailand), Mandy Tennert (Germany), Phuong Nguyen (Vietnam) and Patricia Morenilla-Perez (Spain).

WAWASEE — Wawasee High School class of 1975 and 1976 are having a combined reunion Saturday Aug. 29.

Registrations are being accepted now through Sept. 3 for fall 2015 continuing education classes at Wawasee High School. Classes will begin the week of Sept. 8.

SYRACUSE —Mike Schmidt, principal at Wawasee High School, announced counseling services will be available for staff and students the first day of school Tuesday, Aug. 11. New student and freshman orientation for Wawasee High School will be held starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, in the high school auditorium.

A special Wawasee school board meeting was held the evening of Tuesday, July 28, in Syracuse for the main purpose of a budget workshop and to start the formal budget process for 2016.

A new fund has been established at the Kosciusko County Community Foundation to honor the many years of teaching excellence of Pam Juday Schumm at Wawasee High School, Syracuse.
