MILFORD — A man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident.

Jonathan Kent Quillen, 34, 1495 East Dove Ln., Milford, was charged with two counts of intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor; and violation of special driving privileges, a class C misdemeanor.

On April 1, police responded to the report of an accident near Milford. At the scene, police found a grey Chevrolet truck. The truck appeared to have run off the road, struck a utility pole and a ‘Welcome to Milford’ sign, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The driver, later identified as Quillen, fled the scene on foot after police asked to speak with him. An officer pursued Quillen through a line of pine trees. The officer saw Quillen through the line of trees. He was crouched while pointing a small black semi-automatic pistol in the officer’s direction. The officer took cover, lost sight of Quillen and returned to the crash scene.

While searching the grey Chevrolet truck, police found Quillen’s identification and a multi-colored pipe that tested positive for marijuana, according to court documents.

Police spoke with two individuals who witnessed the crash. According to the witnesses, Quillen’s truck failed to stop at the intersection, then struck the sign and utility pole. They said the truck attempted to leave the scene but it couldn’t gain traction. Quillen exited the vehicle but appeared disoriented and refused help, said the witnesses. An hour later, they saw Quillen walking by their house. They said they asked him to stop. However, Quillen allegedly pointed a firearm at the two and told them to go back into their home.

In the early morning of April 2, police found Quillen hiding in a dog house at an undisclosed residence. An officer asked Quillen if he had his conditional driving paperwork on his person. He said he didn’t keep it with him, but at his residence.

Court paperwork stated Quillen may have possessed statutory condition of specialized driving privileges in the state of Indiana. Police found that Quillen did not possess an operator’s license. His Indiana identification card expired on March 20, 2020.

Police learned that Quillen had been drinking prior to the crash. According to an individual living at Quillen’s residence, he mentioned plans to get a firearm for personal protection. Police smelled the odor of marijuana in the residence. The individual admitted that Quillen frequently smokes marijuana.

On April 2, Quillen was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail. He was later released on his own recognizance. He had an initial hearing Thursday, April 16.
