WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly punching a pregnant woman.

Eric Michael Frye, 34, 1708 Tippecanoe Drive Apartment D., Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery of a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony; battery with moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony; and obstruction of justice, a level 6 felony. 

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on April 29, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a report of a physical domestic altercation.

The caller said that the man and woman involved were leaving the residence in a gray Toyota and were traveling south.

The officer spotted the vehicle in the area of West Center Street and Leiter Drive in Warsaw. The driver of the vehicle was driving erratically, with the vehicle crossing the center line. The officer then pulled the vehicle over.

Once the Toyota stopped, the passenger — a woman — exited the vehicle and began walking toward the officer.

The officer saw that the woman’s face was bloody; she was also crying and had blood stains on her clothing. 

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Frye, got out of the vehicle and began stomping on a cell phone, saying that he was “destroying evidence.”

The woman said she was at the residence packing her belongings in order to move out when Frye arrived and they began arguing. 

The woman said that during the argument, Frye tried to take her purse because it had money in it. The woman said that while they were wrestling over the purse, Frye punched her in the face.

The woman said she asked another man who resides at the home to call the police.

At that point, the woman said Frye dragged her outside. The woman said Frye got into the gray Toyota with her purse, and when she entered the vehicle to get her purse and phone, Frye drove off with the woman still inside the vehicle. 

She said she continued struggling with Frye in an attempt to give police an opportunity to catch up to them. The woman told the officer she is pregnant. 

The officer spoke with Frye, who allegedly said he left work early to check on the woman and found her packing her things. Frye said he thought the woman took his keys so he took her purse and that led to them wrestling over the purse. 

Frye told the officer that he accidentally elbowed the woman in the face during the scuffle but denied punching her. 

Frye said he broke the cell phone in an attempt to destroy evidence of him talking to other women. He admitted knowing that the woman is pregnant. 

The other man who was in the home at the time of the altercation told police that he saw Frye grab the woman and punch her in the face several times. 

Frye was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail April 29 on a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
