WARSAW — A former Kosciusko County Jail officer is facing criminal charges after stealing items from the jail.

Alvin D. Dials, Jr., 61, 3216 S. Oak St., Warsaw, is charged with possession of a legend drug, a level 6 felony; and theft, a class A misdemeanor.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officers obtained surveillance video from the KCJ medical supply room on Jan. 19. In the video, Dials is seen going into the jail’s medical supply cart and taking an Xopenex HFA aerosol inhaler, along with multiple inhaler canisters, without permission or a prescription. According to court documents, Xopenex is a legend drug that requires a prescription.

When confronted, Dials admitted to taking the inhaler and canisters for his own personal use.

Dials has a final pretrial conference for this case at 3 p.m. Monday, May 18.
