Warsaw Schools Announce Regional Chess Tournament Results

WARSAW — On Saturday, Feb. 22, students from five schools in the Warsaw Community School corporation attended the Scholastic Chess of Indiana Regional Team Chess Tournament held at Goshen High School.

The Goshen regional was one of four regional contests around the state. Grade-level teams of students competed in several rounds of chess against area school corporations with the goal of advancing to the Scholastic Chess of Indiana State Team Tournament, which will be held on March 21 at Morton High School in Hammond.

Warsaw Community Schools was represented by Edgewood Middle School, Lakeview Middle School, and Lincoln, Madison and Washington Elementary Schools.

In the 8th and under division, Edgewood’s A, B and C teams will be advancing to state. Lakeview’s A team will also be advancing to state. In the 6th and under division, Lincoln’s A and B and Washington’s A and B teams will be advancing to state.

The Lincoln Elementary A team was in the top three in the 6th and under division and was presented with a trophy to be showcased in their school. All 3rd and under teams are permitted to go to the state tournament to compete.
