North-Webster-ChamberNORTH WEBSTER — North Webster will be featured on the “Our Town” series on South Bend’s PBS TV station WNIT. The show will air from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, on channel 34.

The news was announced at the North Webster-Tippecanoe Chamber of Commerce general meeting Monday, Sept. 14.

Held at the North Webster American Legion Post 253, President Sue Ward led the meeting. Many local people, places and businesses will be on the show, videographed by 23 locals and the WNIT staff. Several local people will be on the broadcast Monday answering phones for pledges.

A by-invitation-only preview will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall for the videographers and their immediate families it was explained by board member Martha Stoelting. She is the chamber liaison with WNIT.

Reporting on the Heart of the Harvest Fall Festival, Ward had sign up sheets to work both the soup stand and the dozen inflatable activities passed around for volunteers to sign. The festival is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Mermaid Festival Grounds. Those wishing to volunteer should contact Ward, Sue’s Creations, (574) 834-4323.

It is a free family event featuring fun things to do for kids and adults, vendors and a cake walk. Soups are being provided by Camp Crosley, Sheila’s Sweet Treats, The Cake Lady and American Legion Post 253.

New board members were introduced by Ward. They take over the terms of two who resigned. They are Theresa Davenport, One Call Water, and Susan Stump, The Papers Inc.

Ward had the people nominated for the three board positions available in January introduce themselves and give some background about their business. Incumbents nominated are Stoelting, The Papers Inc.; Jen Ducey, Tippecanoe Township; and Brenda Peterson, Lake City Bank. Other nominees are Tammy Waliczek, Dixie Haven Resort; Erin Smith, North Webster Community Center; and Michael Mettham, The Dog House.

Ballots were passed out and will be sent by mail to the entire membership. One ballot per member business or organization is all that is allowed. Ballots must be returned by the next general meeting noon Monday, Oct. 12. They can be mailed or brought to the meeting Ward noted.

Board member Jeremy Likens’ grandparents, Bob and Dixie Likens, have donated a storage building for the chamber to use to hold the shoes it is collecting as a fundraiser for overseas, as well as items being moved from the former storage location at the North Webster Community Center.

A work evening was scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, to bag a few shoes and move all of them to the new location. Ward said another work evening will be announced soon to remove the final items from the NWCC.

North Webster Church of God was chosen as Business or Organization of the Month for September. The church is an active community member and has assisted the chamber in many ways including holding a chamber shoe drive within the congregation.

Articles for the chamber newsletter can be submitted by email to [email protected]. Steve Hanford has volunteered to compile the newsletter and it will be edited by Davenport. It should be emailed to members shortly.
