SYRACUSE – The 43rd annual Flotilla Road Race adjusted to a virtual format for the first time in the event’s history.

July 4 is set as the reopening date for the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend continues to operate. 

The Symphony of the Lakes will continue its holiday tradition with a full-length patriotic “Salute to America” concert at Tabernacle Field in Winona Lake, across from the Boathouse, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, just preceding the town’s fireworks display.

At the Syracuse Town Council meeting on June 16, the council passed resolution 20-07 which closes Lakeside Park and Hoy’s Beach on July 3-4 due to the spread of the coronavirus.

As communities roll out belated summer plans and hold on to the few remaining major events – even as coronavirus cases continue to climb in Kosciusko County – the main word continues to be “fluid.”

The Syracuse Town Council passed a resolution closing Lakeside Park and Hoy’s Beach for the Fourth of July weekend during its regular monthly meeting held via Zoom Tuesday evening, June 16.

In a packed two-hour meeting Monday, June 8, Syracuse Parks and Recreation board members were brought up to speed on department projects, COVID-19 responses and finances after a two-month break.

SYRACUSE — Despite temperatures in the low 40s, Lakeside Park was still packed with families eager to enjoy the free, fun activities at this year’s annual Syracuse Fall Harvest Festival.
