Russell Hoffert was born on June 11, 1920. At the age of 4, his mother died in childbirth. An Uncle and Aunt in Claypool, adopted Russell and his brother Archie. Three area World War II veterans joined approximately 75 other veterans from Northeast Indiana to visit the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Women’s War Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and other memorials in Washington, D.C., recently. The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 253 of North Webster American Legion Post 253 recently donated $3,000 to Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. The donation will support the organization’s project of flying World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial and other memorials.
