Art teacher Brenda Stiver, and third-grade teacher Margie Slusser from Syracuse Elementary, teamed up and painted this rain barrel for fun and a way to give back to the community through Habitat for Humanity. This barrel, sponsored by StaceyPageOnline.com, not only won the First Friday Merchants Award for favorite decoration, it brought in the highest auction bid at $201.
It was Raining on Kosciusko County Saturday as the Habitat for Humanity auction of rain barrels was held during the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival.

Following several weeks of online voting, the hand-painted rain barrels were auctioned off to the highest bidders. Christon Clark, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County, started off the Rain on Kosciusko 2012 auction by thanking everyone involved. He explained that the proceeds gained from auctioning of the 21 rain barrels would benefit an upcoming missions trip to El Salvador and Women Build 2012.

Council councilman and founding member of Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County, Bob Sanders, acted as auctioneer. The rain barrels brought in $70 to $130 per barrel with the highest amount going to the First Fridays Merchant’s Choice award winner, sponsored by staceypageonlione.com, donated by The Papers Inc. for a whopping $201.
