The Warsaw girls tennis team picked up a win on the road Thursday evening at Culver Academies.
The Tigers won two of the three singles match to edge the hosts 3-2 in a non-conference match.
Ella Knight and Rosie Fleming each won singles matches for Warsaw. Knight posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and Fleming rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Shelby Hartman and Athena Schlitt won 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 for the Tigers.
Liza Lewis lost 6-2, 6-2 to Rachel Simon at No. 1 singles for Warsaw.
The No. 1 doubles team of Camille Kerlin and Hanna Rice lost in three sets to Regina Padilla and Amanda Padilla.
Warsaw improves to 4-7 on the season.
Warsaw won the junior varsity action by a 9-4 count. Winning for the JV Tigers in singles play were Grace Miller (twice), Libby Jenkins and Bonnie Wong. Victorious in doubles action for Warsaw were the teams of Greer Smith and Sophia Parke, Courtney Thompson and Corinna Good, Brooklyn Rummer and Taylor Biberstine (twice) and Chelsey Farling and Jenn Katris.
Warsaw will host the NLC JV Tournament on Saturday. The Tigers will then play at Goshen on Monday evening.
Baseball Team Drops One
The Warsaw baseball team dropped a 6-3 final to a strong Huntington North team at home.
The host Tigers dug a 5-0 hole to the Vikings and could not recover. Warsaw left eight runners on base in the non-conference contest.
Marselo Rodriguez had a double to lead Warsaw. Ethan Bradley, Sterling Hay, Zach Witt, Tyler LaFollette, Ryan Marshall and Kevin Hawley each had a hit.
Isaac Lenon took the pitching loss for the Tigers.
Walker Spahr and Caleb Landrum each had two RBI to lead Huntington North.
Warsaw drops to 5-11 on the season, while the Vikings improve to 13-4.
Huntington North won the junior varsity game 15-1. Collin Marshall, Jordan Steffensmeier and Alex Miller each had two hits for the Tigers. Matt Francis took the pitching loss for Warsaw, now 9-7.
Warsaw plays at conference foe Goshen Friday night.
