Wawasee SportsSoftball Keeps Rolling

Wawasee continued to hit the ball hard in Northern Lakes Conference play, picking up 10 hits to match its run output in a 10-0 over Goshen in six innings Friday evening in Syracuse.

Allissa Flores hammered another homer, her third of the season and Danielle Gunkel pounded a pair of doubles. The duo combined for six RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Lady Warriors. Meghan Fretz and Kayla White added two hits apiece.

Fretz, for the second game in a row, was a beast in the circle. The sophomore gave up just two hits and two walks while striking out eight for her second shutout in as many games.

Wawasee improves to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the NLC with a non-conference game at East Noble scheduled for Saturday.

The Wawasee JV used the red-hot bat of Nicole Streby to blast past Goshen 13-6. Streby had four hits and four RBIs for an offense that had 13 hits in the game. Katie Avery added three hits and a run scored for the Lady Warriors.

Goshen Outslugs Wawasee

The Warriors and Redskins combined for 27 hits and 20 runs Friday night, but Goshen’s 12 runs were enough in a 12-8 final at Phend Field.

Drew Anderson and Gage Reinhard both had three hits for the Warriors. Anderson doubled, homered and drove in two runs while Reinhard added an RBI. Todd Hauser added an RBI single and stole a base for Wawasee.

Anderson was touched up on the hill, however, giving up five runs and walking three in just 1.2 innings of work.

Wawasee falls to 6-6 overall and 1-5 in the NLC, losers of its last five NLC games. The Warriors will host Concord Monday afternoon.

Goshen held Wawasee in check in the JV game, claiming a 6-1 victory. Rylan Kuhn had two hits and a run for Wawasee, which had Spencer Prescott add a double to its cause.
