The Spirit Of The Constitution

Dear Editor,

The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are the two documents that are the foundation of the American Republic.

Words such as, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” are rights that the Founders of this country believed that we should have. The Constitution for the first time in human civilization, created a written contract between the people and its government.

There are many politicians at all levels of government that are calling for a greater adherence to that contract. In the 22nd District of the Indiana House, there are two completely different candidates; one sees the Constitution as a contract, and one who sees the Constitution as an evolving suggestive.

Democratic Candidate David Kolbe tries to pass himself off as a “New Democrat,” who claims to be a centrist Democrat in nature.

But when you look at many of the starters of this group, Bill Clinton, Evan Bayh, etc., what you see is a pattern.

These politicians claimed they compromised with the other party, but their solutions always involved more government, and they took all of the credit for success. They also tried to avoid taking real stands on issues, which brings us back to Kolbe.

If Kolbe was determining what this election was going to be about, it was to be about yard signs, debates, and website designs. The only reason that Kolbe has brought up any issues at all is because many in the district have quoted his plentiful letters to the editor, and nearly every time, he has dodged by saying his words were taken out of context.

On the other hand, we have a Republican candidate, Curt Nisly who believes that the Federal Government has not held up its end of the contract with the American People.

Nisly knows that anything that is funded by the Government, is funded by the taxpayers, and that the individual can do a better job at spending our money than the Government. Nisly believes that American citizens have the right to defend themselves with guns and his views are in line with the NRA, and the Gun Owners of America.

Nisly believes that life begins at birth, and ends at Natural Death. Nisly knows that the people, through their representatives, created the Federal Government, and not the other way around and wants to restore the state sovereignty that the Federal Government has taken away from the states.

If you believe in the words of the Declaration of Independence, and the Spirit the Constitution provides, hopefully, you will vote for Nisly on Nov. 4.
