Kolbe Would Misrepresent District 22

Dear Editor,

I’ve watched with interest from afar the political campaign for District 22.

Recently, a couple of persons have endorsed David Kolbe, because of his apparent good judgment. I feel compelled to remind the voters of Kosciusko County the turmoil caused by this man as a political office holder in the past. Will history repeat itself?

As Prosecutor, David Kolbe used his position of authority and his judgment to wrongly attack others based on his warped sense of logic and twisted facts. He misrepresented facts and investigative information in attempts to attack those that didn’t agree with his agenda. He pontificated his personal ideas, thoughts and philosophy from his elected position status, regardless of his own staff, party, and constituent’s opinions.

Some of those ideas even conflicted with the very laws he swore to uphold and prosecute. Many of us were compelled to tolerate his rantings, because of the authority he was granted in this political office.

Fortunately, the voters of Kosciusko County recognized that he created more problems than he solved, and he was not re-elected after his first term. If you recall, he had 18 percent of the vote in his failed attempt – the worse defeat for an Republican incumbent in Kosciusko history.

I was a victim of this man’s vindictiveness, as were many others. Regardless, the truth eventually was revealed. It took over 15 years before he apologized to me. His qualified apology that he wronged me was too little, too late.

Hearing a recent endorsement from someone lauding his judgment is laughable- that person must not know this man well, or recall history.

I’m confident that the voters of Kosciusko County are not only intelligent enough to see through this candidate’s platform and motives, but can also recall well the issues that came about from his past performance as an office holder. I lived in Kosciusko County for 30 years – long enough to know that his ideas and philosophy do not represent District 22’s constituents.

I believe history will repeat itself- that David Kolbe will receive less support than he did in his last election. Placing him in the very important position of State Representative not only misrepresents the people of District 22, but would be embarrassing to your community.
