Wawasee Sports Wrap – May 2
Wawasee hammered out 14 hits and needed just five innings to beat Goshen, 11-1, in Northern Lakes Conference softball action at Shanklin Park.
The Lady Warriors (9-5 overall, 3-3 NLC) led just 2-1 heading into the fourth, but hung a six on the scoreboard in the fourth and three more in the fifth while Goshen failed to respond.
Every Wawasee batter reached base at least once, led by the two doubles and three hits overall by Paige Hlutke. Alexis Graber added two hits and two walks while Alli Ousley and Meghan Fretz added two hits apiece.
Amber Lemberg pitched a gem for Wawasee, giving up just two hits, walking four and striking out three.
The Wawasee JV shut out yet another opponent, burying Goshen 13-0. Hannah Haines pitched her fifth shutout of the season and second in a row, striking out 10. The Lady Warriors are 10-0 on the season.
Wawasee’s varsity will take on East Noble and Westview Saturday in a doubleheader at Wawasee. The JV will return to NLC action Monday against Concord.
Late Rally Propels Redskins
Goshen plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie, ultimately claiming a 5-3 victory over Wawasee in varsity baseball at Warrior Field.
Drew Anderson led the Wawasee offense with a double, two runs and a stolen base. Chase Rookstool added an RBI single and Nate Hare reached base twice for the Warriors.
Goshen outhit Wawasee 13-6 in the game.
Jordan Currie shouldered the loss, working 3.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs.
Wawasee falls to 5-9 overall and 0-6 in the NLC.
The JV team from Syracuse kept pounding the ball Friday night in a 14-8 win over Goshen.
Will McCarthy, Spencer Prescott and Rylan Kuhn all had three hits for the Warriors (7-2) while Lucas Garza and Caleb Dingeldein combined or eight strikeouts on the hill.
Wawasee will take on Concord Monday in Dunlap.
