SIDNEY – Lisa Parrett was named clerk-treasurer for the town of Sidney in an appointment by the Republican Party Tuesday, May 26, and becomes the fourth person to hold that position this year.

It’s the latest change in the town’s leadership that also includes an all-new lineup on the town council.

Kosciusko County Republican Chairman Mike Ragan made the appointment Tuesday night in a brief meeting at the Sidney Fire Station meeting room.

Asked what she hopes to bring to the job, Parrett responded, “Hopefully, longevity,”
striking a humorous moment in what has been a difficult year for the town that saw its longtime clerk and a town council member forced to resign in January after it came to light that they had not been properly appointed or elected to serve the town.

Another council member stepped down for health reasons and the council president quit in mid-March.

Parrett, 55, is retired after 24 years with Zimmer where she worked as an environmental lab clerk.

She’s served as the deputy clerk since April and will move into the new position immediately.

She replaces Lydia Neal, who stepped down earlier this month.

Neal replaced Etta Hurd, who had been appointed as clerk-treasurer in January but resigned just a few weeks later because of personal issues.

Hurd replaced Lana Wolfe, who had held the position for many years but was forced to resign in January.

Parrett appears to be well-suited for the job because of her background.

Parrett has a double master’s degree in business and has resided in Sidney for about eight years. She studied computer science as an undergrad.

In recent months, the town has been upgrading the way it operates to meet state requirements. In the past, many town records have been kept on paper, but the town recently purchased a laptop and establishing an internet connection at the new town hall.

Parrett said she thinks her organizational and computer skills will be an asset.

Parrett’s son, Gavin, is one of the new town council members. She said she doesn’t envision a conflict in their roles.

Parrett will fill the remainder of the existing four-year term for the office, which will expire on Dec. 23, 2023.
