SYRACUSE — Anyone driving down Brooklyn Street may notice a foundation is being laid between two existing Polywood buildings.

According to Matt Sandy of the Kosciusko County Area Planning office, a foundation permit was issued to Polywood Thursday, April 2. According to Sandy, Polywood is working on a major expansion, constructing a 149,000 square foot L shaped building between two existing buildings.

The new construction will be an expansion of the building located to the west and will not quite meet the building on the east side of the site. The east-west leg of the building will be 472 feet wide while the north-south leg will be 435 feet deep.

Sandy said according to the planning commission’s hearing notes, the new building will be used for storage of finished products.

At this point, the area planning commission has only issued a foundation grant and is waiting for the state to issue a commercial design release. Polywood’s contractor is required to give the area planning commission a copy of the CDR when it receives it from the state.

The Mail-Journal reached out to Polywood earlier in the week for comment, but did not hear back from the company by press time.
