WINONA LAKE — The Winona Lake Town Council approved a supplemental agreement related to the viaduct at Argonne Road, Tuesday, April 21.

The brief council meeting was conducted via Zoom.

The agreement allows the town to work with A and Z Engineering to conduct structural repairs on the abutments at the railroad viaduct on Argonne Road. It also allows for a survey and development of preliminary landscape designs for the sections of land on both sides of the viaduct, according to Town Manager Craig Allebach.

The agreement is part of the upcoming roundabout construction project at the intersection of Argonne Road, Winona Avenue, Kings Highway and Park Avenue.

The work on the viaduct is expected to cost about $354,800. Eighty percent of the funds will come from the Indiana Department of Transportation, according to Allebach.

Construction of the roundabout is still a year or two from starting.

In other matters, the council approved a salary ordinance that allows the town to pay its employees during the coronavirus pandemic. The town has continued to pay its employees thus far. The ordinance formalizes what the town is already doing, said Council President Rick Swaim.

Lastly, the council approved the appointment of Shawn Kantenwein to the Winona Lake Police Department.

Kantenwein began his duties as a police officer on Wednesday, April 1, according to Swaim.
