WARSAW – A bloodmobile event that had been canceled due to the need for social distancing was resurrected on a limited basis Friday to accommodate those who had reservations.

The blood drive by American Red Cross was one of four announced recently in the area over increased needs for blood due to the coronavirus.

Reservations were quickly filling up when officials realized social distancing would make using the bus difficult.

Friday’s blood drive in front of the Walmart store on SR 15N in Warsaw was aimed at accommodating those who pre-registered, according to Mike Cox, a volunteer with the Red Cross in Warsaw.

The process was a bit slower with limited space inside. Those in line stood outside. Donors were encouraged to use Rapid Pass, an online registration system, and had their vitals checked outside the bus.

For upcoming events, instead of using the bus, Red Cross officials will have blood drives at Center Lake Pavilion. Those are from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Monday, March 30, and from noon to 6 p.m. on April 14.
