SYRACUSE — The Lakeland Regional Sewer District would like to remind all customers those items that should not be flushed down the toilet.

Products that seem flushable such as paper towels, disposable wipes, and used cooking grease can cause blockages in your sewer line to the grinder which can lead to a sewer back up into a customer’s home. These items can also interfere with the operation of the district’s grinder stations and even damage the grinder pumps.

These issues can increase operations and maintenance cost for the district. One of the primary goals of the Lakeland Regional Sewer District is to treat its customer’s wastewater in a way that improves the areas water quality while keeping the cost as low as possible for its customers.

So, district personnel are asking everyone to dispose of the items listed here with their household trash service, where it can be taken for disposal in an environmentally responsible manner. If you have any questions you can contact the Lakeland Regional Sewer District at (574) 529-2383.

This is a list of items that should not be thrown into toilets as the community deals with the pandemic.
