WINONA LAKE — What exactly should you not flush down the toilet?

Warsaw and Winona Lake officials, including Tom Miller, project manager for Inframark Water & Infrastructure Services in Winona Lake, are urging “No Wipes Down the Pipes,” even if a product says it is “flushable.”

Officials are worried the increased use of wipes during the virus crisis means more will get flushed.

Even an excessive use of toilet paper can cause issues. The following items should not be flushed:

  • Diapers (including cloth, cotton, disposable or plastic)
  • Flushable, disposable, cleaning or baby wipes
  • Paper towels, cloth towels or any rag
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Facial tissues

These items should be placed in the trash.

“Putting these items down the toilets may plug sewers and cause raw sewage to back up in the home,” Miller said.
