WARSAW — Meals are continuing to be delivered to seniors through the mobile meals program at Kosciusko Community Senior Services, with some minor changes implemented due to coronavirus concerns.  

Approximately 100 physician-approved meals are delivered each day, Monday through Friday, throughout the county by KCSS.

“We have implemented what we call Stop and Drop,” said KCSS Executive Director David Neff.

“We have called all our seniors and asked them to set out coolers or we have insulated bags donated by Meijer. The volunteer will take the meal and put it in the bag or cooler, knock on the door, then return to their vehicle and observe from their vehicle,” Neff said.

Neff said if the recipient comes out and retrieves the meal, the volunteer goes on to the next stop. If the senior does not come out to get the meal, the volunteer will call the senior.

“We feel this will be the best way to ensure no contact between volunteers and seniors,” Neff said. “Normally we encourage volunteers to interact, but we are in a different world right now.”

Neff said the new system began Monday, March  16.

All non-essential activities at KCSS have been canceled. The Senior Activity Center is closed until further notice. 

KCSS senior transportation buses will continue to operate but will provide essential rides only.
