Raider Aces Trump Warrior Diamonds
The Northridge baseball and softball programs maintained its respective momentum pushes Wednesday in Northern Lakes Conference play against Wawasee.
The Raider baseball team scored three runs on Wawasee starter Patrick Navarro and made the output hold up in a 3-1 victory in Middlebury.
Northridge, which moves to 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the NLC, used doubles from Austin Moniot and Shannon Baker in its crusade. Blake Fry worked the complete game, remaining perfect on the season at 6-0.
The Raiders only loss in conference play came Monday in a 6-0 loss at Concord.
For Wawasee (3-13, 1-9 NLC), which were crushed 16-0 by Northridge two weeks ago, Derrick Sorensen doubled and Nate Hare went 2-3 with a run scored.
Wawasee’s JV (9-3), on the other hand, figured out Northridge with a 9-3 victory. Aaron Voirol had a big day at the plate with four hits – two being doubles – driving in two runs and scoring two runs. Colin Beer pitched five innings of seven-hit, two-run ball.
On the other end of the home-and-home spectrum, the Wawasee softball team hosted Northridge with revenge on its minds after a tough loss in Middlebury in late April. Northridge jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for dear life in a 5-3 final over the Warriors.
Northridge’s Haley Nixon and Haley Schrock each had two RBIs, Schrock’s coming without recording a hit. Northridge plated three runs in the third and two more in the sixth before Wawasee countered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Nixon did the dirty work in the circle, striking out eight Wawasee batters and scattering four hits. Wawasee’s Kylee Rostochak had a two-run single during the sixth-inning rally. With the win, Nixon moves to 15-1 on the season, responsible for every one of Northridge’s results as the Raiders also move to 11-0 in the NLC.
The Northridge JV slowed down Wawasee with a 7-1 victory. Sierra Hart led Wawasee (9-2) with two hits.
Wawasee (7-11, 3-7 NLC) will travel to Plymouth Friday.
