Harold A. “Bud” Garber, 87, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 2:56 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born July 26, 1925, to Ralph and Luetta (Rouch) Garber.

On Oct. 6, 1945, in Fort Smith, Ark., he was united in marriage to Lois June Prater. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army in the European Theater during WWII as Corporal from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds received in battle and a Bronze Star for valor.

After the service Bud settled down and became the best husband, dad and grandpa any family could ask for. He loved teaching all of the family to roller skate (he and Lois met that way), ice skate, swim, fish, play dominos and checkers. He was never too busy to take the children of each generation to the park to play or feed the ducks. Bud loved God, family, neighbors and country and all who knew him loved him.

He was employed by the United States Postal service for 34 years. He was a member of the Postal Carrier’s union, and a lifetime of the Brethren Church and American Legion Post #49 both of Warsaw.

He is survived by his wife: Lois Garber, Warsaw; daughters: Judy (Gary) Lemons, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Janet (Terry) Hygema, Greer, S.C.; and Doris (Darmon) Bush and Penny (Rob) Adams, both of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in the funeral home. Pastor Howard Immel will officiate the services. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
