Month Of April Exciting At Syracuse Library

There are a surprising number of books with food recipes in them. Food from Fiction book club has spent the winter months reading and sharing the food found between the pages. The Friends of the Syracuse Library are bringing local author Jeanne Dams to Syracuse for a salad lunch at 11:30 a.m. April 24. A limited number of tickets are on sale at the circulation desk. The group is making the final plans to provide the full variety of desserts found at last year’s event. The proceeds from Friends activities go to fund special programs, such as, purchasing the tickets for families of the spring story time program when they go to the Fort Wayne Zoo.

The campaign One Book/One State: Frankenstein launches a year of activities in celebration of 200 years of Frankenstein culture. Everyone is encouraged to pick up a copy of the 1818 edition to join the community read, and then find a place to share the story. The Syracuse Library is offering more than 10 different topics and meeting times for teens and adults. The first is about modern implications led by Kosciusko Literacy Services’ Cindy Catesat 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.

Food From Fiction book club meets one more time at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26. The last author in the series is Michael Pollan. He is a must-read journalism teacher and activist who pleads the case for eating more wholesome foods. The group is looking at the practical aspects of healthy eating habits with, “In Dense of Food.”

Tuesday’s chair yoga session is the last for the month of April. The class meet sat 10:15 a.m. April 3, and resumes at 10:15 a.m. May 1. Walk and advanced chair yoga is on hiatus until May 3 when the walk begins at 9 a.m. and the yoga starts at 9:30 a.m.

WorkOne continues providing services in the northern part of the county by coming to the Syracuse Library every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Children’s programming is in full swing through April. Activities are free and welcome new participants. May is a planning time when the staff prepares for summer activities, so April is the time to visit story times, baby bookworms, children’s book club and after school fun at 4 p.m. on Thursdays.
