Plastic bottle lids can be recycled by being reattached to the bottle and recycled as one piece.

WARSAW — For avid recyclers who aren’t sure what to do with plastic or metal bottle caps, Kosciusko County Recycling Depot Director Tom Ganser said the solution is simple — put the lid back on and let the lid stay with the bottle.

Ganser said bottle caps are just as recyclable as the bottles they came on. Both bottle and lid can be processed at materials recovery facilities where recyclables are separated and sent to appropriate locations for reuse.

Ganser said some schools use the recycling of bottle caps for fundraisers. In these cases, recyclers who know a student or parent collecting bottle caps can save those items for that use. However, Ganser said it is not a good idea to bring just bottle caps to the depot for recycling all by themselves.

Re-attaching the lids to the bottles is the preferred method of recycling lids, Ganser said.
