Valley Sports Wrap: Jan. 9
AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley’s boys swim team suffered a competitive Three Rivers Conference loss to Rochester Tuesday, 98-83, while the Lady Zebras won by a more comfortable, 113-70 margin in Akron.
The Vikings won six of their 12 events at the meet. Chase Brower claimed three wins himself with a 22.83 stop for first in the 50 free, a 1:08.84 time for top honors in the breast stroke and a turn as anchor behind Daniel Alexander, Mason Stephen and Dakota Prater in the medley relay, where Valley clocked 1:58.18 for their only relay win of the night. Prater claimed a second win in the butterfly, where his 1:06 flat was a field best, and Alexander clocked 5:56.36 in the 500 free to win that event. Travis Shull’s 154.15 in the diving competition earned him first place there ahead of teammate Zach Hodge’s 142.75 as the Vikings went one-two in the event.
The Lady Vikings celebrated a quartet of wins in their dual, meanwhile.
Mayde Fear turned in a 1:16.38 stop in the backstroke and a 28.32 in the 50 free for a pair of individual wins, and she swam anchor for Valley’s winning 400 free relay squad where she, Olivia Livingood, Jerzey Conley and Shelby Baker combined for a 4:31.94 time. Livingood claimed the Lady Vikings their only other win in the butterfly, with a 1:10.27 time.
Valley’s swim teams will return to action at the Oak Hill Invitational Saturday at 8 a.m.
C team basketball
Valley’s boys basketball C team lost a 41-28 game with Manchester. Zach Landis paced the Vikings with eight points, and Domingo Santiago scored seven for Valley, which fell behind 15-8 at the first quarter break.
