Wawasee Basketball: Cavemen Escape in OT

SYRACUSE — It was a matinee feature at the Hardwood Teepee Saturday afternoon as Wawasee welcomed in Mishawaka. It was a fun show for home fans, right up until the ending. The Cavemen rallied to beat Wawasee 62-58 in overtime, handing the Warriors their fifth-straight loss.
Wawasee held leads at the half and going into the fourth but Mishawaka outscored the Warriors 11-8 in the final eight minutes of regulation to force the extra period. The Cavemen were 8-11 from the charity stripe in overtime and 13-22 for the game. Wawasee, meanwhile, was 4-4 from the line in OT, but was hurt by a lack of opportunities as it was just 8-10 for the game.
Trevon Coleman led Wawasee with 16 points. Cam Schlabach added another 10 points for the Warriors. Mishawaka’s Luke Shively led all scorers with 19 points.
Wawasee (5-13) hosts Westview Tuesday evening.
Wawasee’s JV team won 52-39.
