NORTH WEBSTER — Names of the individuals involved in the North Webster Shooting will be divulged tomorrow, Friday, July 29, mid-morning or afternoon, according to Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Trent Smith.

Smith stated the ISP won’t be speaking to the Kosciusko Deputy Sheriff, who was involved in the shooting until Sunday or Monday. The individual that crashed his truck into Link Accounting was taken to Parkview Hospital and is currently sedated.

Smith said the two individuals involved knew each other and might have possibly been related by marriage at one time. Smith talked with the victim, who said he was traveling southbound on SR 13. He said the suspect was traveling northbound on SR 13, crossing the tracks in Syracuse when their eyes met.

The victim stated he didn’t give it another thought until he saw the suspect driving erratically behind him in an attempt to catch up.

There are reports of shots fired between the two, according to Smith, but won’t be known for sure until the investigation progresses further.

It was reported that the victim turned onto East Huntington Street and the truck passed the street, then attempted to make U-Turn and follow the victim onto East Huntington, but as he was pulling a trailer behind him he didn’t complete the turn and crashed into the Link Accounting building.

It is unknown at this time how the Deputy Sheriff’s vehicle ended up in the crash.

Smith said the main question thus far is, “What happened before [the event transpired]?” and “How did it get this far?” Smith said the victim doesn’t know why the suspect chased him.

Smith said that with terrain from Syracuse to North Webster, all the hills and turns, “This could’ve gotten ugly quick.”

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department will be heading up the accident and the ISP will be investigating the shooting.
