WARSAW — Downtown Warsaw was the place to be Friday evening, June 3, as crowds gathered for a 1950s-themed First Friday.

Local vendors and nonprofit organizations lined the streets while the smell of local food filled the air. An Elvis impersonator hip-swiveled on stage, performing favorite tunes by the King of Rock-n-Roll. Lucy, Marilyn Monroe and even Sandy from Grease were among the chosen costumes for a look-alike contest. Meanwhile, four young hula-hoopers showed off their talent with “Elvis” as the judge.

Echoes of the Past lined a half-block area with antique tractors and served up homemade ice cream. Around the corner, the Christian Motorcyclists Association lined another half-block with a variety of motorcycles on display.

Water for Life held an awareness activity, challenging anyone interested to carry a 5-gallon jug filled with water around the courthouse square until they reached a mile. The idea was to show what many families in Africa must go through every day just to have something to drink.

An unveiling took place for the 2016 Walk-n-Wander series, featuring 20 all-new sculptures. Passers-by througout the downtown area stopped to admire the different Walk-n-Wander pieces.

Throughout 2016, First Fridays will feature different eras of Indiana’s first 200 years of statehood in celebration of the upcoming state bicentennial. July’s First Friday will feature a 1960s-70s theme.
