ELKHART – The Warsaw cross country teams concluded their perfect runs through the Northern Lakes Conference Tuesday night.
The pair of teams each turned in impressive efforts in taking care of host Elkhart Memorial and Goshen in the final league action of the regular season.
The No. 9 Warsaw girls team, despite resting the majority of its top runners, topped Memorial 19-43 and bested Goshen 23-36.
Coach Jim Mills’ squad, led by standout Owen Glogovsky, beat the Redskins 21-37 and the Crimson Chargers 17-42.
Both Warsaw teams finish the NLC regular season slate unbeaten at 7-0.

Warsaw girls coach Scott Erba saw his deep roster step to the forefront on a night where he rested eight of his 10 top runners. The Tigers just finished third in the AAA Division (large schools) prestigious New Prairie Invitational on Saturday and is preparing for the Culver Academies Invitational this coming weekend.
“We wanted to see great times tonight on a good course in good conditions and we got that from our girls,” said Erba. “I think of the 28 girls we had run tonight that we had 16 personal best times. That’s a good thing for a Tuesday night meet.
“We feel really good about how we have done in the dual meet season. One of the goals of the girls was to go undefeated in the NLC and we checked off that goal tonight. Any time that you can check off a goal that’s a good thing.”
The Warsaw ladies, who were NLC regular-season champs in 2014, had standouts such as Allison Miller and Mia Beckham go through a workout Tuesday night at Memorial instead of compete. Beckham was seventh overall and Miller 11th in the huge field at New Prairie on Saturday.
Warsaw has its top seven runners back from its team that placed 16th at the State Finals last year.
Anna Craig made the most of her opportunity at the front for the Tigers in winning the girls race. The junior hit the finish line in a winning tie of 20:04.
Mallory Hooks was the second orange and black clad runner to hit the tape as she was fifth overall in a time of 21:01. Remi Beckham led a pack of Warsaw runners to finish sixth through 10th. Beckham was sixth overall in a time of 21:25, followed by teammates Amanda Hermann in seventh place (21:32), Angie Sanchez in eighth (21:33), Michaela Roark in ninth (21:45) and Emma Bohnenkamper in 10th (21:55).

“We talked Monday about our mental preparation,” Erba stated. “We talked about stepping to the line and knowing that you are ready to perform and being confident. Our girls have put in the work to do just that.”
Mills watched as his young team continued to make an impression on their mentor.
“I thought at the start of the season that we were so young and thin that we would take some lumps early on,” said Mills. “But these guys have stepped up really fast for us this season.”
The Warsaw boys team lost at Goshen in the NLC regular-season finale a year ago as the Redskins took the league crown.
This time, it was all Tigers as Warsaw had six runners finish in the top nine Tuesday night.
“Last year, we were not very happy with how the NLC finished,” remarked Mills. “We’re glad to be on top of the NLC again.”
Senior Glogovsky, one of the top runners in the area, won the race in a time of 16:33. Freshman Zeb Hernandez was third in 16:34 for the Tigers.
“Owen is in great shape and Zeb has already broken our freshman record,” Mills said. “We’re a thin team so we have to stay healthy.
“TJ Day was huge for us tonight. He just had a great race with a major PR for him. He’s a kid we need to run well and boy he did tonight.”
Xavi Ramirez was fourth overall for the Tigers in a time of 17:05. Lucas Howett was seventh in the field of 89 runners in 17:29 for Warsaw. Jonathan Beres was eighth in a time of 17:35 and TJ Day was ninth in 17:42.
The Warsaw boys team, which has had quite the run the last several years with star frontrunners like Jake Poyner, Robert Murphy, Ellis Coon and now Glogovsky, look poised to continue to surprise some people as the postseason approaches. The Tigers failed to make it to the State Finals a year ago after placing eighth at the semistate. That came after Mills’ team was fourth at the State Finals in 2012, the program’s best finish ever, and then 12th at State in 2013.
“I feel good about where we are right now,” said Mills. “No one is talking about us this season and that’s okay. The big thing for us down the stretch is to stay healthy.”
Both Warsaw teams will compete on Saturday in the Culver Academies Invitational. The NLC Meet is set for Oct. 3 at Ox Bow Park in Dunlap.
