K-County Athletes Compete At EKS Games

INDIANAPOLIS – Special Olympics athletes from across Indiana competed in the fifth annual Eunice Kennedy Shriver (EKS) Games at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. Kosciusko County Special Olympic athletes competed in Flag Football and Corn Toss events at the EKS Games held on Sunday, September 13.

Athletes also received free hearing and foot screenings from local health care providers as part of the healthy athlete program. Those athletes will be receiving complimentary athletic shoes.

The Kosciusko County Panther Flag Football team coached by Tony Thompson won gold medals by winning both of their afternoon games. The Panthers defeated Monroe County 35-24 and followed that up with a 50-20 win against the Clinton County Reds in the championship games.

The Panther Flag Football team members included Matt Bammel, Matt Baker, Gabe Santana, Amy Philson, Erica Mifflin, Anthony DeGaetano, Kevin McPeak and Joe Bradley.

Ken McPeak, head coach for Corn Toss, did an excellent job preparing the athletes for the competition.

County coordinator, Becky Walls, would like to thank the volunteers and coaches for their efforts in making this possible for our local Special Olympic athletes. Special Olympics league bowling is currently underway with Team Basketball and Skills Basketball beginning late fall.
