SYRACUSE — Saturday evening’s ribbon-cutting officially marked the beginning of a new downtown Syracuse venture. A Touch of Beauty joined the community with plans to offer a variety of services, including a traditional barbershop in the storefront and an adjacent private skincare room. The Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce was on hand to facilitate an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome the new business to the community.
The joint venture by Syracuse husband and wife team Kenny and Jennifer Preston is located in the Wawasee Plaza Building, 101 E. Main St., just west of the library. They will be open by appointment only throughout July as they wrap up other responsibilities but plan to accept walk-ins and have regular business hours beginning in August.
While Kenny hails from Fort Wayne, Jennifer grew up in the Syracuse area. The couple met at Ravenscroft Beauty College in the Summit City.
“I’m looking forward to this new start,” said Kenny. “Fort Wayne is oversaturated by barbershops and there is a need and demand for it here. I’m looking forward to meeting new people.”
The Prestons have dramatically upgraded their new working space, with new flooring, fresh paint and tasteful decorations. Kenny said he did much of the work himself, with the exception of the flooring. He noted they started the work around a month ago.
In his part of the operation, Kenny will provide a variety of traditional barbershop services, including beard trims, brow clean up, hair cuts, line ups, mini facials, shampoos, straight razor shaves and hot towel services. “I do like what it’s become,” he said. “Its come a long way.”
For her part, Jennifer said she is excited to open a business in the community in which she grew up. She will be offering a variety of skincare services, including facials, massages, waxing, microblading, derma planning, lash lifts and brow/facial threading.
