WARSAW – A prayer vigil is planned for 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, in downtown Warsaw in celebration of Juneteenth, the annual American holiday that celebrates the end of slavery and the accomplishments of black Americans.

The event will be from 8-9 p.m. on the courthouse square in downtown Warsaw, according to a news release from the Warsaw One.

This year’s event will include the following speakers: Joseph Banks, Pastor Denny Bollenbacher and Walter Johnson of New Beginning Church, Atwood; Marsha Cook, a retired educator from Warsaw Schools; Dr. David Hoffert, superintendent of Warsaw Schools; Dudley Allen, local business owner; DJ Ray Cruz, Sonic Memory Productions; Interfaith Group, and Father Ryan Fischer of St Anne’s Church, Warsaw.

“In the spirit of prayer and healing for our community, we recommend that you join us with social distancing guidelines and the use of masks. The event will be LIVE-streamed as well,” the news release said.

One Warsaw – Celebrating Us, a nonprofit group, is sponsoring the event. The entity was re-organized in 2019 with the first annual community inclusion event held last fall with the mission of supporting, celebrating and educating all people.
