WARSAW — As of noon Wednesday, May 27, the Kosciusko County Health Department reported five new cases of COVID-19. This brings the county’s number of total positive cases to 99.

Kosciusko County Health Officer Dr. William Remington, in a news conference Wednesday morning, May 27, said the spike of nearly 30 new cases in the past week is not just attributed to additional testing.

“I cannot attribute it just to the fact we’re doing more testing this week,” Remington said. “We have seen a jump in cases because we’re doing more things socially and we anticipated that. Every expert will tell you this will happen when you start opening up.” 

He said he still supports Governor Eric Holcomb’s phased-in re-opening plan.

“I encourage people to continue social distancing and try to avoid congregated sustained indoor gathering as much as you can,” he added.

Statewide, the latest posting on the Indiana State Department of Health website shows the number of COVID-19 deaths in Indiana rose to 1,871.

The total positive number of COVID-19 cases in Indiana is now at 32,437. More than 235,000 Hoosiers have been tested for COVID-19.

Locally, Whitley County has 41 positive cases, Wabash County has 73 positive cases, and Marshall County has 80 positive cases. Noble County has 192 positive cases and Elkhart County has 1,070 positive cases.

Fulton County’s case number remains unchanged at 47.

Cass County, which is south of Fulton County and includes Logansport, has 1,586 positive cases. In other northern Indiana counties, Lake County has 3,347 positive cases; Allen County has 1,353 positive cases; and St. Joseph County has 1,218 positive cases.

Marion County, which includes Indianapolis, has the most cases in the state at 9,371.

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, more than 384,000 people in the United States have recovered from COVID-19.
