WARSAW – Kosciusko County Health Officer Dr. William Remington shed some light on the recent uptick in local COVID-19 cases.

In the past week, the county recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 34.

Seven of those new cases were part of a testing effort tied to nursing homes outside of the county, he said.

The tests involved employees who work at nursing homes outside of the county but live in Kosciusko County.

Six of the cases were asymptomatic, meaning they showed no symptoms. The other people were mild or moderately ill but did not require hospitalization.

Remington says the number of positive cases will continue to rise as more testing is available.

Remington said about 15 to 20 percent of the county’s COVID-19 cases have required hospitalization.

His comments were made at a weekly briefing at Warsaw City Hall Wednesday.
