WARSAW – Norfolk Southern is preparing for an extensive project on the north-south railroad line that will improve warning signals at eight crossings in Warsaw.

Work is expected to begin by the end of February and could continue for eight months, according to a news release from the city.

The project involves replacing railroad crossing warning devices at the following crossings: Pope Street, Winona Avenue, Market Street, Center Street, Main Street, Fort Wayne Street, Lyon Street, Arthur Street.

Crossings should remain open at most times, with some intermittent lane restrictions and short-term closures, the statement from the city said.

Work will begin at the southernmost crossings (Pope and Winona) and move north.

Crews may work on more than one crossing at a time, depending on available manpower.
