NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Town Council started 2020 off with a swearing-in ceremony by Town Attorney Jack Birch. President Lisa Strombeck and council members David Waliczek and Dan Thystrup followed by Clerk-Treasurer Alice E. “Betsy” Luce took the oath of office to defend the United States and Indiana constitutions.

Council approved two purchases suggested by Inframark Utility Manager Jayne Alger. Tabled from last month were grit channel brushes in the amount of $5,910. Brown Equipment Company, Fort Wayne, was contracted to do maintenance on everything on the town’s street sweeper except the brushes for $4,995.

Alger reported the sewage plant was in compliance for the month of December. Two town employees, Drew Kuhn and Joe Clark, have fixed some problems with Station B in house. The department purchased a bucket truck from Dave’s Electric, North Webster. Roads were cleared during the snow during the past weekend.

Kosciusko County Assistant Planner and Flood Administrator Matt Sandy spoke to the council about North Webster recertifying the county for community ratification of the National Flood Insurance Program. President Strombeck signed the forms to have the county represent North Webster.

The council passed a resolution to move $100,000 that was unspent in the 2019 rainy day fund to the 2020 rainy day fund. Several members of the North Webster Boy Scouts attended the meeting as a requirement for their citizenship of the community merit badge.

Police Chief Greg Church reported for both the month of December and the entire year of 2019. There were 209 calls of service during December and 2,998 for the year. The highest category for both time frames were traffic-related.

Officers worked 686.79 hours in December and 9,336.5 hours in 2019. Miles driven were 4,158 for the month and 48,700 for the year. Fuel used was 329.8 gallons for December and 3,945.9 gallons for the year.

The next town council meeting is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, which is one week earlier than normal and changed due to another meeting.
