WARSAW — A Fort Wayne man was arrested after allegedly stealing more than $50,000 from a Pride-C gas station in Kosciusko County.

Gregory Michael Barkley, 49, 3015 Marne Place, Fort Wayne, is charged with theft, a level 5 felony; and theft, a class A misdemeanor.

On Nov. 21, 2019, an officer with the Indiana State Police was informed by the owner of multiple Pride-C gas stations that an employee was stealing from one of his stores. The owner said he believed the employee was Barkley.

According to court documents, from Jan. 1 to Nov. 21, 2019, an Indiana Pride-C gas station in Kosciusko County had a pecuniary loss of more than $50,000. Court documents did not specify the location of the Pride-C gas station. However, according to the company’s website, Pride-C recently purchased the Sunoco gas station located on Lake Street in Warsaw. Through an audit, the owner learned that Barkley, who worked as a manager, had manipulated daily totals on numerous days and was taking money. The owner told the officer that manipulating the numbers required access to a computer and that Barkley was the only employee who had access.

On Nov. 21, the officer interviewed Barkley. During the interview, Barkley admitted he had used the accounting system on a computer to manipulate daily totals and would exert control over money belonging to the Pride-C stores. He admitted to doing this at two Pride-C locations. Barkley also said no other employee was involved in the theft.

Barkley was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 2, 2020, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
