SOUTH BEND — Triton’s boys basketball team lost its second straight with a narrow 45-41 loss at Trinity at Greenlawn Thursday.

Trinity was a little better from the floor, connecting at a 15-of-32 (47 percent) rate, compared to16-of-39 (41 percent) conversions by the Trojans. But the Titans took 27 free throws, making 14 of them, while Triton attempted just eight total free throws in the statistical difference-maker.

Michael Florin paced Trinity (5-3) with 16 points, while Daniel Mattimore scored 10. Beau Hepler notched 11 points, and Tyler Heckaman scored 10 points with nine rebounds for the Trojans, who led by as much as 41-31 in the contest.

Triton (4-4) will host John Glenn Jan. 4.

In Thursday’s JV game, Triton prevailed 45-20. The JV Trojans jumped out to a 31-7 halftime lead and never looked back. Bruce Johnson scored 15 points, and John Gardner notched eight. Trinity’s JV was led by six points each from Joe Miller and Peter Loughran.
