
NORTH WEBSTER — Tuesdays rain got rid of the hot muggy weather the area had been experiencing, making it a pleasant night for the annual cutie parade tonight, Wednesday, June 20, a highlight of the North Webster Lions Club annual Mermaid Festival,
This year 103 entries showcased the theme “Wide World of Sports,” for this year’s parade. While baseball and basketball were heavily showcased, water sports such as skiing and surfing made an appearance as did a host of Olympic and other college and professional sports.
The parade kicked off with a large float featuring last year’s cutie king and queen, Maddox Fatchett and McKinley Murphy, along with Caleb Clevenger and Lillian Byng who were crowned 10 years ago in the first were present as was Hannah Parker, 2017 Queen of the Lakes.
Entries for the parade were walking, hand-drawn or motorized. Scholarship money will be awarded for first through fourth place in each division. Winners will be announced at the Cutie Pageant which will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the North Webster Community Center.
The Mermaid Festival continues through Saurday, when the 2018 Queen of the Lakes will be crowned. The pageant begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 23, in the North Webster Community Center.
