NORTH WEBSTER — Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce will have new and improved computer software for her office said the North Webster Town Council at its Tuesday, May 15, meeting. Some of the benefits are there is no charge for updates and training is included.

Luce recommended the package after trying it and another and the council agreed. Total cost is $30,900. It will be installed by Jan. 1.

Council also approved a new air conditioning and heating system for the town laboratory and office at the utility plant. “The current unit cannot be repaired and is 20-25 years old,” explained Mike Noe, utility manager. It will be replaced with two, more efficient units at a cost of $6,7000. Dave’s Electric, North Webster, was awarded the contract.

Leesburg Paint Shop was approved to restore and paint the frame and box of the bigger town dump truck used to haul sand and salt. The amount was $2,271 and epoxy paint will be used.

It was announced by Tammy Waliczek, park board secretary, Steve Kemp is the new park board president and he will be at the next town council meeting. Some improvements to the park are being planned for the fall. The park is open and people are enjoying it.

Police Chief Greg Church told the council, “The police department is beginning to serve notices about junk cars and trash. Residents who see these happening are encouraged to contact the police.”

He also presented requests for street closures during upcoming festivals. North Webster Lions Club requested West Washington Street be closed from Wednesday, June 20, through Saturday, June 23, for the Mermaid Festival and for South Street to be closed during the parades as usual. North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce asked for West Washington Street to be closed for the Dixie Day Festival Saturday, June 28, as is usually done. Council granted all the closing requests.

Church reported 284 calls of service by the police department during April. The most, 68, were traffic related. Officers worked 871.75 hours, drove 5,149 miles using 402.1 gallons of fuel.

Members of the council are Jon Sroufe, Lisa Strombeck and Dave Waliczek. The next meeting of the council will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St.
