Triton Girls Basketball: Lady Trojans Open HNAC With Win

BOURBON — Triton’s girls basketball team opened Hoosier North Athletic Conference play with a 44-34 win over visiting LaVille at the Trojan Trench Wednesday night.

The Lady Trojans (5-5, 1-0 HNAC) built an 18-8 lead in the first quarter and never trailed on the way to the win. They held LaVille to 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) shooting in the first half while they converted at a 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) clip from the floor over the first two quarters on the way to a third straight win.

Hannah Wanemacher hit 6 of 11 (54.5 percent) shots from the floor — including 3 of 7 (42.8 percent) 3-pointers — on her way to a game-high 16 points in addition to four steals, four rebounds and two assists. Whytnie Miller finished with eight points, five rebounds and four steals, Nicole Sechrist scored five points with five rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots, and Abigail Powell chipped in four points and six rebounds as part of a 31-19 rebounding effort by Triton.

Lindsay Aschenbrenner hit 5 of 6 free throws on her way to a team-high 11 points for LaVille (6-2, 0-1 HNAC). She also recorded game-highs of seven rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Lancers. Haley Berger scored nine for LaVille in just its second defeat of the season.

Triton continues conference play when it hosts Knox Saturday at 4 p.m.
