NORTH WEBSTER — A weekend of rain couldn’t dampen the success of the first Motorboats & Merlot 5K and Boat Show benefiting The Watershed Foundation.

The event, hosted at Tippy Creek Winery, was a fundraiser set up by the winery and ProWake Watersports to benefit local lakes and streams.

Tippy Creek Winery owners Dan and Lori Richcreek presented Eileen Oaks and Lyn Crighton, TWF staff, with a check for $1,000 after the event.

The Friday before the boat show there was an evening 5K run that attracted more than 120 participants who braved the wind and rain. Runners received a glass of wine, a souvenir wine glass, age group plus overall awards and enjoyed live entertainment.

On Saturday, storms loomed over the event in the morning, but a glimmer of pleasant weather attracted more than 500 people to enjoy live music, local wine, 2017 boats and the Big Apple Pizza food truck.

“Our community and local businesses depend on the health of our lakes. These two businesses took action with us to help ensure that they are supported and protected,” said Eileen Oaks, marketing specialist for TWF.

“We are part of this amazing community, so we want to give back as much as possible.” said Lori Richcreek, owner of the winery.

Proceeds from the $1 entry fee, 5K race and a generous donation from the winery went toward a $1,000 check presented by Tippy Creek Winery to TWF.
